Journey Wellness Updates
Journey Wellness, our non-clinical program, continues to grow and expand! All offered events are available to anyone, regardless if they are currently a client at Alliance Counseling Center or not. We aim to provide individual experiences, community building activities, and professional growth opportunities.

The purpose of Journey Wellness is to allow more people to enjoy the healing benefits of being at the farm without needing to be a mental health client.

We aim to be creative in our approach and flexible with programming. And soon we hope to be offering CEU opportunities! Please contact us if you have any interest in participating in a workshop or group. We are also able to create specialized retreats or ceremonies (e.g. hope ceremonies, coming of age ceremonies, transition ceremonies) for your family/friends or business.

Staff Spotlight: Angela Helwig
Angela Helwig
Angela Helwig is an Occupational Therapist at The Center at Heron Hill for over a year. She is a licensed Occupational Therapy, SIPT Certification (Sensory Integration Praxis Test), and recently certified in the Fundamentals of Natural Lifemanship. She has spent the past 20 years working as an OT in a variety of settings and with clients facing different issues. Previously worked at CDRC at OHSU for the past 17 years with a focus on evaluation and treatment of children, young adults, and families dealing with a variety child development and neurological challenges.

"When we exist only in the synthetic world, we struggle to slow down enough to listen to our bodies. I think that nature based Occupational Therapy really helps people with processing sensory information and regulation. Nature is slower and a more approachable setting that allows for more creativity and movement.  I also love teaching families how to be engaged in nature, such as a hike, and make it therapeutic for everybody."

Inspiration From a Client
"In our busy world, it's hard to take time to slow down and listen to yourself. But, when I go to Heron Hill, I feel like I can step out of my busy life and reflect within the comforts of nature. Mindfulness takes daily practice and Heron Hill provides a rich, nourishing environment to be one with nature. Each visit I find new and more insightful opportunities to better myself."
