Self Exploration and Connection Through Art Journaling
May 5 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until May 12, 2021
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” ~Thomas Merton
Everyone has the capacity to create, even if you don’t see yourself as particularly artistic. Art therapy combines the use of art materials with self-inquiry to access and express what words sometimes cannot. Art journaling is a form of creative self-care that can anchor us at times when we feel untethered.
Working creatively in a group environment can be a powerful way not only to look inward, but to connect with others. This group will help members explore their inner world through creative prompts and discussion. Themes will range from mindfulness and self-care to strengths exploration and healing from the collective trauma of the last year.
This group is for adults over the age of 18 and is limited to 12 members. We will meet once a week for eight weeks starting Wednesday, March 31st. Each group session of 1.5 hours will encourage group members to explore aspects of themselves by responding to prompts using simple art materials such as pencils, markers, watercolors and collage. Group members will then be given the option to share their artmaking and perceptions with the group. This process of sharing what we create can foster personal validation, connection and community.
Materials provided for those that need them. Please coordinate with Laura.
This is a 6-week mindfulness adult group focused on managing mental health symptoms. Group will include providing a space to verbally and non-verbally process challenging experiences within a group setting, with the hope to identify common themes among members.
