The Center at Heron Hill is a 60 acre farm located within the Oregon woodlands of Canby, and is home to many therapeutic farm animals and nature-based spaces. We are a mental health facility that offers animal assisted therapies including equine assisted psychotherapy amongst other therapeutic modalities, as such none of the horses are ridden. As a workplace, we value trauma informed care, respectful, collaborative discussions and work-life balance.
We are currently looking for someone part time, two full days. Days can be sorted out with our full time barn manager. We also have on call barn staff available for when either regularly scheduled employees are unavailable for horse care.
The ideal candidate will be:
- knowledgeable about horses (we have 16!) & donkeys (3) and comfortable handling them
- knowledgeable about goats (3), sheep (2), and pigs (2)
- comfortable working independently most days
- capable of lifting 55-75lb regularly
- availability for 16 hrs per week, generally starting no later than 8am.
- The ability to work one weekend day is highly preferred.

Job responsibilities:
- Feeding all animals and cleaning their enclosures (very limited stalls, most are on 24/7 turnout)
- administering medications
- overseeing & assisting during vet and farrier visits
- general cleaning & low level maintenance
- occasionally ground work training with an emphasis on natural horsemanship and positive reinforcement
- communicating with equine therapists and their assistants about their needs for sessions and the animals needs as applicable
Pay and Benefits:
- $20-24 an hour depending on experience
